Substitite and Guest Teachers

Hannah Sego

Miss Hannah began her dancing lessons at the tender age of three. Her best friend had begun taking lessons and Hannah just had to join her. She fell in love and has never taken a break from dancing, since. In an essay Hannah wrote about her love for dance, she says:  “Dance is something I do for myself. I love the feeling of finally performing a dance that I have worked on for a year. I love the satisfaction that I did it on my own, with my self determination to keep working on it even when it seems impossible!”

Hannah’s  first teacher was Scharmaine Lakstins. Hannah also studied with Pam Keown and currently Hannah is studying ballet with Miss Becky both privately and in class. Hannah also began studying  modern with Lauren Beirne and will continue studying modern at Ballerinas with Miss Kristen, Miss McKenzie  and at the Modus Dance Theater.

Miss Hannah performed as  a soloist and principal dancer with the Indianapolis Youth Ballet.

Miss Hannah’s goals are to continue to refine and strengthen her dancing technique in preparation for a dance major program in college. This is all for the purpose of becoming the best dance teacher she can become as well as business woman in the hopes of opening her own dance studio in the future!

Hannah wants to thank her mother Shiela, her biggest fan, for making it possible for dance to be such a big part of her life!!! Shiela is a true cheerleader setting the example for students and parents alike in always being supportive and encouraging to everyone.

Miss Hannah is currently attending the Mason Gross School of the Performing Arts at Rutgers University where she was awarded a $40,000 scholarship for excellence in academics and talent. Miss Hannah will be having input with our yearly performances as well as making guest appearances while she is attending college.
Miss Becky is very happy to have Miss Hannah on her team!!!

McKenzie Baird

Miss McKenzie began her dance training in Muncie, Indiana at Cole Academy.  At the age of 10 she moved to Pennsylvania and began studying technique intensely with Kathleen Johnston who inspired her to become a professional dancer.  “Without Kathy I would not be where I am today, I owe her more than I can ever say.  Because of her I’m doing what I love for a living.”

McKenzie went on to study at the prestigious Point Park University, ranked second in the nation for dance education, earning her BA in Dance with minors in English, economics and political science.  While in college McKenzie also took the opportunity to study abroad at NYU’s TISCH dance and at Georgetown University.  While attending Point Park, McKenzie received her 200 hour certification to teach yoga from OM Yoga in NYC.  Her college honors thesis, titled “Yoga and PTSD: Eastern Medicine in a Western World,” allowed her to explore two of her passions simultaneously, yoga and psychology.

McKenzie is currently attending Ball State University and intends on getting her MA in Counseling.  Her goal is to provide dancers with more than just traditional technique.  “Technique is fine, everyone needs technique.  But, if I can give my students a Pilates exercises that will redefine how they think of their centers and save them years of struggle with traditional technique training I would be crazy not too.  Versatile training in areas like Pilates and yoga as well as skills in counseling and nutrition makes me better able to give students everything they need to succeed.”

McKenzie began her teaching career at Dance Works in Pennsylvania under the tutelage of Kathleen Johnston.  Since then she has taught at numerous schools including locally at: Performers Edge in Carmel, NRG Dance Theatre in Indianapolis and Ball State University in Muncie.

McKenzie is currently studying to receive her Pilates certification with specialization in dance and her ABT training certification.
